Vanuatu, officially known as the Republic of Vanuatu (French: République de Vanuatu); is an island country located in the South Pacific Ocean. It has a land area of 12,189 km2 (slightly larger than the US state of Connecticut) and a population of just over 300,000.
British and French settlers named the islands the New Hebrides in the 19th century, and agreed in 1906 to an Anglo-French Condominium, which administered the islands until independence in 1980. At that time the name of Vanuatu was chosen.
Due to its remote location, Vanuatu has found it hard to attract tourism. Vanuatu in the past offered offshore banking licenses and IBCs (offshore international business corporations) as well as trust services.
Today, a large part of the country’s revenue is attributable to its Citizenship by Investment program, which has been very successful at a global level. A Vanuatu passport allows visa-free travel to many countries worldwide including the UK and the Schengen zone in Europe. It is also known as one of the faster processing countries for Citizenship by Investment.
