Nevis is the smaller of two islands making up the twin-island Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis. While St Kitts and Nevis is well known as the world’s “platinum standard” Citizenship-by-Investment jurisdiction, we sometimes need to explain to clients that when it comes to financial services legislation, Nevis is a separate jurisdiction from St Kitts with its own distinct laws. It’s also a genuine hide-out of the rich and famous and even royalty – its boutique hotels unscathed by the mass tourism which has afflicted much of the Caribbean.

For us, Nevis has always stood for discreet quality in the sector, at a reasonable price. Nevis is a well-regulated jurisdiction that has deftly avoided the spotlight and scandals of many others who engaged in higher volume incorporations over the years. On the other hand, it hasn’t gone to the extremes of the likes of BVI and Cayman that have simply made life too difficult for any businessperson not willing to spend tens of thousands per year on compliance costs.

Nevis has a great reputation for asset protection – especially amongst US lawyers. Alongside the Cook Islands, it is generally recognized as one of the top two asset protection havens for Americans in high risk professions such as doctors and chiropractors.

Unfortunately the tax situation of Nevis companies is currently unclear, but trusts are unaffected and here at Offshore Pro Group, Nevis remains our preferred jurisdiction for registration of offshore trusts. Trusts from other jurisdictions can also be ported into Nevis with relative ease. Another advantage is that Private Trust Companies are not regulated in Nevis, keeping costs lower for middle-class families looking for asset protection and inter-generational asset strategies.
